The School of Nursing at Purdue University Global recognized the limitations of conventional classroom learning and hands-on clinical experience in fully preparing students for real-world patient care.
To address this, they envisioned using immersive technology to enhance students' critical clinical skills in a more effective, efficient, and engaging manner. However, they were faced with the challenge of developing immersive learning modules that could simulate real-world scenarios while also ensuring a secure learning environment.
Purdue Global teamed up with Immersive Health Group (IHG), a Glimpse Group subsidiary, to create Clinic Immersives. This innovative technology is designed to train both health care students and practitioners.
Clinic Immersives features VR modules, augmented by AI, that allow students to acquire greater confidence and enhanced precision with hands-on skills. These experiences help healthcare practitioners acquire clinical skills more rapidly, with fewer errors, and retain learned skills longer than traditional learning methods.
The use of Clinic Immersives virtual reality technology has provided wider access to critical healthcare education, focusing on both the hard and soft skills required in clinical practice, while also allowing students to learn at their own pace. This integration of VR in clinical education is helping to address the shortage and limitations faced in various healthcare fields.
Clinic Immersives received positive feedback from attendees when it was showcased at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare by Purdue Global and IHG. The technology is now being offered to other organizations, further broadening access to immersive clinical training.
